Celebrating the Launch of Dark and Lovely’s Au Naturale Curl Power with Marsha Ambrosius & Curly Nikki

Michelle February 21, 2013 11

Last night I attended the Dark and Lovely’s Curl Power party to launch their new Au Naturale anti-shrinkage natural hair care line. Best selling author and one of our favorite natural hair bloggers, Curly Nikki helped host the event along with the lovely Marsha Ambrosius. (Chrisette Michele was supposed to be there but had a health crisis. Keep her in your prayers)

Marsha, Nikki and Softsheen Carson’s Director of Education kicked off the party with these opening words:

The event was packed with naturalistas and I was in awe of how far us women have come with respect to embracing our natural hair. As you can see from the photos above, there were Dark ‘N Lovely models reppin’ the products and their hair was truly dope. I have a new found appreciation for my curly sisters. Of course, I would be the one to come to a curly hair event with my hair straightened! After my most recent CurlFormers set, I decided this would be a great time to wear my hair straight (video on that coming soon). Umm yeah but no. It started to revert back after my morning workout (sorta)

However, in the spirit of being a truly curly girl, I returned to my “roots.” I graciously allowed one of the Dark ‘N Lovely stylists to transform my hair from straight back to curly using the Au Naturale Anti-Shrinkage Curl Defining Creme Glaze and Gelee. The results were elongated curls.

Official Au Naturale Commercial

Shortly after my fellow naturalistas were drunk relaxed, the official Au Naturale commercial was played (gotta love the curly girls). Here’s some footage:

I brought my daughter with me to this event as I’m trying to keep her exposed to the natural hair community. She’s been embracing her own natural texture so keeping her around other naturals helps her to stay motivated to care for her natural hair as well as provide ideas on how to style it.

Fabulous Curl Friends

I made a few new curl friends (one pictured in the yellow) and also met up with the super fabulous Shelli from Hairscapades, her equally fabulous sister Shay and the everso famous Curl Whisperer, Jaded Tresses aka Tameka (drink in hand). She performed surgery on my tresses with the miracale cut she gave me back in July

And check out sista girl’s nails (chica in the yellow above). Booyah! I love this

All night long, my natural sistas were networking and enjoying music, complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres (yes y’all, the free was happenin’ all-night-long!) I was very impressed with this party because at the last couple of curl friend get togethers, it was over crowded and the treats were only available for two blinks. This was by far the best Curly Nikki hosted curlfriend gathering I’ve attended in New York to date.

Dark and Lovely made the event a true night to remember. Three 3 blessed young ladies won the Instagram contest and scored a gift bag full of the entire anti-shrinkage line! The rest of us losers curlies were sent home with samples.

Yes doll, if you weren’t there then you just missed it. Maybe next time…

I’m about to faint looking at all this fabulous hair in one place.

Not a huge fan of “curl elongating” products but it looks like the turnout was great. And your hair looked bee-you-tee-ful.

I hope Chrisette is OK. Will send some positive vibes her way.

You know. I was a little reluctant too but I actually like a little elongation for a wash and go. Now for a twist out, I’m sticking with Curl Enhancing Smoothie for sure!

That’s awesome that you got good results from the product Michelle!! And that word bubble … why did it take me 5 minutes to get that it was what he was supposed to be saying as he looked at you taking the pic?!?! LMBO!!! Btw, I have a funny as heck pic of you!! I won’t post it, but I’ll have to email it to you!! I’m so delinquent on writing my recap post. I spent the last 2 days just getting the pictures from my camera and phone to my computer, resized and I still have to figure out which ones to use!! That’s where all the work is!! Okay, gotta go! Nice recap and pics!!
