Can I Improve My Skin’s Elasticity?

Michelle July 20, 2011 8

That’s not usually a burning question you have in your 20s or even early 30s but as you start approaching your 40s (I’m there!), getting premature wrinkles becomes a concern.

Do Antiwrinkle Creams Really Work?

Antiwrinkle skin care big business. Women everywhere are trying to protect their beauty (and that includes preventing premature wrinkles). There are eye creams, neck creams and facial creams in general. Do they work? Well, that depends.

How damaged is the skin? If there’s a slight loss of elasticity, creams and ointments can help. But, remember what works for one may not work as well for another. It’s not very easy to see exactly how much elasticity is lost with the naked eye.

So, what’s a girl to do when she’s concerned with looking older before her time?

The Best Cure

You’ve probably heard the saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Or maybe it’s only familiar to us 40 something year olds LOL.
Either way, at the end of the day it can be applied to improving your skin’s elasticity. How?

skin elasticity

Your skin's a lot like a rubber band :-)

Basically, there is very little that can be done to improve the elasticity of skin that has been severely damaged. Therefore, your best line of defense is to protect your skin from being damaged in the first place.  Here are a few tips:

1) Moisturize regularly. Don’t allow your skin to go days without moisture. A good moisturizer will contain beneficial nutrients to nourish your skin.

2) Avoid long periods of time in the sun. Sun damage is a large cause of damaged skin tissues that lose its elasticity

3) Drink plenty of water. I know I know. You’ve heard it a thousand times but the fact is your body is composed of mostly water and if you dry out inside, guess what?  You dry up outside.  Ewww, perish the though.

4) Look for skin care creams that contain one or more of these ingredients: Vitamins A, C, E; Collagen, Elastin, Hyaluronic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Aloe

You may not be able to dramatically improve skin elasticity that’s been damaged but you can protect it.

    Drinking water is so important.
It’s been so hot here so I don’t want anything heavy on my skin so I have been using BE neck cream, BE facial cream, Pro active acne treatment because heat sometimes break me out. At night I use Marajuca oil or Kiehls’ midnight treatment ( both are not oily ).

Yes it is. Water helps flush the toxins out of your skin that can cause acne.

I’d add getting lots of sleep, Michelle. Those overnight hours make a difference in our skin in the long run.

Yes, sleep is very important! I need to get more myself. It’s difficult when you have tons of responsibility but nevertheless you’re right. If we don’t get enough sleep over the long haul, time will tell the tale on our skin.
