Pampering Yourself Day 14: Sleep

sleep deprived

If you live in a fast paced town like me (New York), chances are high that you hardly get enough sleep. Even if you don’t live in a busy city, things and people can disrupt your pillow time.

Continuing to deprive your body of sleep is slow suicide. You may get away with it for a while but eventually it catches up with you. Just look at the consequences you’ll face if your body is regularly deprived of sleep:

  • Mental impairment
  • Reduced physical ability
  • Increased stress levels
  • A compromised immune system
  • Short term memory loss
  • Blood sugar problems
  • High blood pressure
  • Depression

While this list is not exhaustive, you get the point right?  You don’t need to necessarily get 10 hours of shut eye nightly but you do need to listen to your body and give it at the least 7 hours of sleep nightly.

You’ll refresh your entire being by prioritizing a full night of sleep. Don’t stop there. Try to get enough sleep at least 6/7 days a week.

This post is 100% true. So simple, yet so many of us don’t follow what’s best. Life gets in the way. LOL

:-) We have to control life not let it control us. I know I know. Easier said than done. If we get it right at least most of the time we are good.

When you put it like that I guess I should take my tail to bed.

Found your blog via Stiletto Minded. She’s right your blog is on fire… will definitely return to read more.

I always knew the benefits of sleep and I used to get the recommended amount of sleep but like Rece says Life get’s in the way and when you have so many things to juggle in one day sometimes sleep just has to take a backseat.
However I don’t know what’s been happening to me lately but I’m always sleepy. I literally have to drag myself out of bed otherwise I would just stay there sleeping all day. So I think I’m probably getting too much sleep.

Hey Mia. Too much sleep definitely isn’t good but maybe your energy level is off. If you eat a lot of carbs (especially bad ones like white sugar), that could cause you to be lethargic when you wake up.

It’s true that sometimes you gotta juggle with life but you also have to make your health a priority. I’m busy with full time work, running a business, a special needs child etc. yet i make sure to at least most of the time get the sleep I need. Most of the time :-)

Sleep deprivation is something else. I’ve also read that if one is trying to lose weight, he/she must be sure to get the proper amount of sleep. Because if not, losing weight will be harder.

Hi Evelyn- I heard that too. I think it’s because the metabolism gets out of wack.

I’m so guilty of sleep deprivation it’s not funny. Some of it is insomnia, thanks to perimenopause, but some of it is me not getting off the computer/Kindle early enough. Help! I promise myself to do better.

Ahh, enlightenment is the first step. I know how it is with the computer but I’ve trained myself to get off at a certain time. A little timer really does work.
