If you suffer from acne periodically or frequently, chances are that you seek out products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These are 2 common ingredients found in acne treatment products.
These types of products should not be a part of your daily skin care regimen indefinitely.
There is a time for using products with acne fighting ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. However, they shouldn’t be used when you aren’t experiencing an outbreak. It won’t be good for your skin for a couple of reasons:
- Your skin could get used to these ingredients and when you actually need them, they won’t be as effective.
- Daily use for long periods of time can cause sensitivity and even premature wrinkling
Knowing When To Use Acne Treatment Products
So, if you shouldn’t use products formulated to treat acne when you aren’t having an outbreak then do you prevent it from happening in the first place?
When you have an outbreak or even feel one coming on go for skin care products formualted to treat it. When your skin is acting right, that’s the time to use prophylactic acne products (no, not condoms).
Washing your face with a cleanser that contains ingredients that absorb excess oil and kill bacteria is your first line of defense. That’s not to say you’ll never have a pimple pop up. Your changes of them popping up less frequently though, get better.
To simplify it all, use facial products with acne fighting ingredients WHEN you are having an acne outbreak and facial products with ingredients (ex: charcoal and AHAs ) that fight the insigators of acne BEFORE you have an outbreak.
