Protective Skin Series: Why Gravity Isn’t Your Skin’s Friend

gravity's effect on your skin

Before you were born your skin was untouched by environmental factors like pollution and gravity. As soon as you entered this world, gravity began its course of  “pulling you down.” Not to worry though. It’s not a quick process so there are some things you can do to protect your skin.

While gravity is our friend as far as keeping us “grounded” (no pun intended), over time it can be a mug when it comes to your skin. Sagging and wrinkling can occur over time due to the loss of collagen and elastin. Of course, gravity isn’t the only culprit that can cause your skin to lose its luster but let’s pick on this environmental factor for now.

Regardless to if gravity is the cause  or if it’s some other guide force, there are certainly things you can do to be proactive about protecting your skin from damage and early sagging and wrinkling.

Here are some tips to protect your skin from the effects of gravity:

  • Always apply your products in an upward motion. In other words, don’t work with gravity. Work against it.
  • Use facial products containing ingredients like Vitamin C and E. These help to improve your skin’s elasticity so you can fight against gravity.
  • Try some facial exercises. I know it sounds corny but over time, it may help to firm the skin on your face. Check out a demo of yoga face and neck exercises:

Pretty cool eh?
