If there was only one product I could have in my baauty repertoire, it would be mascara. I LOVE mascara. Hence, the reason I possess about 15 different brands of mascara (some not pictured).
Now, I know that you can’t keep mascara around for too long because bacteria can develop within it. BUT, I’m not worry about that LOL. No. Seriously. I’m not.
Mascara doesn’t last very long when you use it every day. I have some brands photo’d above that I have yet to open or I have only used once or twice to review. I use some less often than my favorites and lately, my favorites are colored mascaras!
I think colored mascara can be absolutely gorgeous on women of color. It can really compliment our skin tone and eyes. The problem is it’s never been easy to find affordable colored mascara that goes with our skin tone. Usually, higher end brands usually make them and the cost is above what I’m willing to spend. As far as mascara goes in general, I will not spend more than $12.
Rimmel London Pop Lash Colored Mascara
I was thrilled to discover Rimmel London’s new Pop Lash Color Mascara. I stumbled upon these while perusing my local Rite Aid. They were only $3.50 a piece. I grabbed one of each (minus the black mascara. I have plenty of those).
“But Colored mascara can’t be worn everywhere.” I beg to differ. You can overlay a colored mascara over black mascara for a hint of color. That’s what I do for the days when I have to go to the office and can’t rock the bold colors. When I want it to be more apparent, I applies several coats of Rimmel Pop Color Mascara.
Check out how each slightly changes the look of my eyes:
In these pics, I have on 3 coats of each of the colored mascaras with no black mascara beneath. The effects would be much less dramatic if I had used black mascara underneath but for the sake of showing you the colors, I opted for the boldest effect I could get while swatching!
I have dark brown eyes and as you can see, the blue makes them look the darkest. Also, in these photos, the colors look a lot more dramatic (due to flash photography) than in person. Yes, they are still bright but just not as much so. My favorite (surprisingly) is the pop blue followed by the purple. I like the green least of all and can only see wearing it in the summer with other bright colors, including a color combo of eyeshadow that will tone it down some.
What I Like and Not So Much Like
Purple. Green. Aqua Blue. Each is unique and brings out the beautiful natural color of your eyes.
I like how dramatic the colors can make your lashes appear. You can truly create your own look with these colored mascaras. They are very affordable and application is pretty simple. My only quip is this mascara is a little clumpy. As you start building the layers of color, you do have to jiggle your lashes so that the color isn’t clumped in one spot. But, hey what do you want for three bucks?
What do you think of colored mascara? Do you wear them or are you interested in trying?
