foods for clear skin

All the talk surrounding hair and fashion can lead one to forget about that one part of your body that is a true reflection of your health and internal cleanliness.. Your skin!

On Wednesdays I try to share a skin related post here on Radiant Brown Beauty. Sometimes they get overshadowed by a product review, beauty experiment or holiday related post.

Today let’s delve into a way to really allow your radiance to shine through staring with what you put into your body.

We know that drinking more water helps to release the toxins in your body that hinder you from having clear skin. As a matter of fact, I’m right in the middle of participating in a 64 oz water challenge where I’m share my success with consuming the life giving fluid over on my other blog, Special Mom Space. Check it out for tips on how you can consume more water too.

Beyond drinking water, the food you eat can help you to have greater skin clarity. Add these foods to your diet for clear skin:

Green Tea

Green tea has long been praised for it’s health benefits. Applying a green tea extract directly to skin is most effective for conditions like acne and sun damaged skin but there may be some benefits for your skin by drinking it as well. So, drink up!

Berries

Rich in an antioxidant called resveratrol, berries are a super food for your skin. This antioxidant has been shown to protect your skin from environmental damage caused by free radicals. It also helps to hault the growth of skin cancer cells*

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes have a healthy amount of beta-carotene which your body converts to vitamin A. Vitamin A has been shown to regulate skin cell production in a manner that helps your skin to be smooth and supple.

Having clear skin has less to do with what you put on your skin. You’ve heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” It couldn’t be any more true. Improve your skin’s clarity buying adding these three foods to your diet in abundance.

I need to remember to put these foods into heavy rotation! I already love berries and green tea, but it’s been a while since I’ve eaten sweet potatoes. I might grab some the next time I head out to the grocery store.
