5 At Home Strategies to Improve Your Skin’s Clarity

Having clear skin does not come without cost.  For most women, it’s not genetic. You have to work at it.

Skin Care Products That Promise Clear Skin

There are many skin care products on the market that promise to transform even the most marred skin into a breath of fresh radiance. Don’t believe the hype (why do I hear Flavor Flave in my head right now?). The products are only as good as the skin care habits of the person using them.

Skin care products are typically used as an aid to help maintain your skin’s health. Some products contain ingredients to correct certain problems but for ultimate skin clarity, there are some regular practices you should engage in to get clear skin.

But What About Seeing a Dermatologist?

Taking a trip to the dermatologist is always smart. But what if you don’t have insurance or the money to go to a dermatologist? What if the dermatologist you can get to is booked up for months on end (By the way, I’d travel far for a good one)

These 5 strategies can help improve your skin’s clarity:

  1. Drink plenty of water.  Nothing flushes out impurities that cause blemished skin like good ‘ole fashion H2O.
  2. Watch what you put into your body. What you eat greatly impacts what your skin will look like.  I’m not just talking about cookies and cakes either.  Any food that’s processed should be limited. Otherwise, you may find it difficult to keep your skin clear over time.
  3. Minimize how  much you touch  your face. Your hands touch tons of surfaces a day. Even if you wash your hands after touching each surface, germs are not removed 100%. If you touch your face, you introduce those germs into your skin
  4. Invest in a good quality facial mask suitable for your skin type. You can make your own at home with natural foods like honey, yogurt or lemon which help to even out  skin tone over time. You can also purchase one. If you’re going to purchase a facial mask, opt for one indicated for sensitive skin. It shouldn’t contain harsh chemicals or preservatives. Clay masks are great for absorbing toxins from the skin, thereby helping to clear it up rather quickly.
  5. Exfoliate regularly but not more than weekly. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells that cause your skin to look dull. Conversely, if you get over zealous with it, you can ruin perfectly healthy skin by exfoliating it too soon.

BONUS Tip: Take a daily omega oil supplement. I’m convinced that fish oil imparts all the nutrients and goodness your skin needs to be soft, supple and radiant. I’ve noticed a dramatic change in my skin’s appearance since adding 2 daily omega supplements to my regimen.

Using good quality skin care products and seeing a dermatologist are part of a good strategy to clear up your skin at home.  Employing the other 5 6 strategies I shared, give you a greater chance for success.

Okay, I’m just coming on to say that I LOVE your little Bohemian braid and headband!!! How cute is that?!?!

(But yeah, great skin advice too;). When I was following the Perricone diet, I had lots of fish oil via daily servings of wild salmon and Omega fats through walnuts. My skin GLOWED!! Keep meaning to get back into eating more salmon!)

:-) Thanks Shelli. The front was actually a flat twist, not a braid. The rest was just a messy bun and the headband I borrowed from my daughter lol

I love your boho look as well.
My main problem is I touch my face too much. I try not to but for some reason my hand just can’t stay away from my face.

I have a question though, I usually only break out when I wear makeup but I have some acne marks from before and I was wondering what do you suggest I do to clear it up?

honestly, I think most of us have that problem with touching our face. it’s done without even knowing most of the time I think.

What I’d do is just try to be aware and catch yourself. Keep hand sanitizer close by and use it regularly so at least if you find yourself touching, the germs on your hands are minimized.

for clearing up, honestly I’d recommend a dermatologist if you find that outbreaks are becoming very regular. It could be hormonal, diet or a number of things. If it’s just old acne marks, are you exfoliating weekly to slowly lighten that up? A fruit acid peel can help also. You just have to make sure you aren’t re-injuring the skin by picking it again or exposing it to sun.

Whenever you peels or any kind of treatment that “messes” with the skin, you must make sure you avoid the sun and wear sunscreen with an SPF of 45 if you must go outdoors. The sun will darken those marks.

Also, regular face masks with honey help to lighten dark spots but it takes a long time. Don’t want to wait? That Clinique Even Better Skin tone corrector works beautifully. It takes about 6 weeks to see results though

I like my skin and usually it gives me little problems but I’d like to add another great tip to yours five: sleep. And not only sleep but a restful sleep. I life without stress is also recommended :)

You are giving me life with this pic, Michelle! I love the flat twist and headband (which reminds me to leave my comment on your vid). Cute look!

And these are such great skin care tips. I always make sure to drink plenty of water and am growing more conscious of what I’m putting into my body. Saying no to sweets can be hard sometimes. The struggle is real!

And eating salmon at least twice weekly does wonders for my skin. Since implementing salmon in my diet last year, I have been experiencing a nice natural glow.

One of my biggest problems is touching my face though. I really gotta stop that. And I will take your above advice and keep my sanitizer close by at all times.

Awesome post, lady! Sharing away :-)

Thanks lady :-) My head was aching by end of day though LOL! I had to take the headband off. It’s new so doesn’t have enough give yet.
