A few weeks ago I received an email from one of my subscribers asking at what point during her beauty regimen should she apply sunscreen.
Hi Michelle,
I’m very excited, love your tips on how to mantain a beautiful skin.Im a young women 28 years well I started to used sunblock about 5 months ago and I wanted to know if I have to apply the sunblock on my face before I put on my daily cream
What can I do to remove a little dark that I have on my cheek..I was using Hydroquinone but I read and article that affirm that it can cause cancer so I stop using it.
Keep informing me with your beautytips loveit.
My response:
You should apply your moisturizer first, followed by your sunblock. If you wear makeup (hopefully it’s all natural mineral makeup!), put your makeup on top of that.
For uneven skin tone, try Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector. It takes some time but I like that’s gentle and good for sensitive skin.
Why did I recommend Clinique’s Even Better Skin Tone Corrector?
Not because it’s natural. That’s for sure. It’s not. However, I’ve found it to be very gentle on the skin. It does not cause a dramatic change in the skin to lighten hyper-pigmentation. Instead, it fades dark spots over time and without the use of hydroquinone.
Here are the ingredients:
Water, Dimethicone, Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Polysilicone-11, Butylene Glycol, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Turmeric Root Extract, Rice Bran Extract, Grapefruit Peel Extract, Barley Extract, Wheat Germ Extract, Birch Bark Extract, Cucumber Fruit Extract, Dimethoxytolyl Propylresorcinol, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Mulberry Root Extract, Trametes Versicolor Extract, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Yeast Extract, Peg-6, Tromethamine, Salicylic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Cholesterol, Isohexadecane, Propylene Glycol Dicaprate, Sunflower Seedcake, Caffeine, Tocopheryl Acetate, Acetyl Glucosamine, Simethicone, Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Hyaluronate, Di-C12-18 Alkyl Dimonium Chloride, Sodium Rna, Squalane, Sodium Sulfite, Sodium Metabisulfite, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Vp/Copolymer, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Disodium Edta, Phenoxyethanol, Yellow 6, Yellow 5.
In the case of Clinique’s Even Better Skin Tone Corrector, while this is not an all natural product many of the ingredients are. They are close to the beginning of the ingredient list. You’ll also notice that the product contains the acne fighter salicylic acid.
Fade creams should be used until desired results are achieved. They are not meant to be a part of your ongoing skin care regimen or for maintenance. Use them as you need them. Alternatively, hyperpigmentation can heal itself over time provided no re-injury is done to the skin. However, it takes a very long time for uneven skin tone to normalize on its own.
Stay tuned for a future post where I’ll share my aestheticians tips for using skin care products (all natural vs. OTC vs. pharmaceutical)

hydroquinone is definitely too harsh for my skin. That’s why I don’t use Ambi’s fade cream.

honestly i don’t think the FDA should allow that product on the market but then again what do I know
To get an even skin tone I have for years been using a facial scrub (apricot). I like to avoid getting spots by avoiding things that can cause spots. I do know that some spots can’t be avoided, but many can be.

People with very oily skin are prone to breakouts and therefore hyperpigmentation. Also, you are a lighter complexion so your risk for hyperpigmentation is much lower than darker skin sisters.
I think that I might need this because my face is quite oily. Thanks for sharing another great remedy for my face.

Thanks for these tips! I always get them mixed up, over which should I apply first, be it the moisturizer or the fading cream. What’s the estimated period to test a fading cream if it’s worth your time or not? Should I see results as soon as 7 days or earlier?
I haven’t used fade creams in a while. The Clinique was my last used product and I saw results in about 2 weeks. you don’t really want fast results because that means whatever chemical is in the product is having a drastic affect on your skin.
I’ve been wondering what to use for my uneven skin tone as well so I’ll definitely have to try the Clinique Skin Tone Corrector.
Mia, it’s not all natural but I really found it to be one of the best when I used it back when.
