RBB Gift Guide: Nail Care Gifts

growing short nails

Today is the last day  I will be sharing recommended Christmas gifts. I’ve shared gifts for your hair and gifts for skin care. If you’ve not shopped by now, what are you waiting for? LOL!

So, what lady doesn’t want healthy strong nails and/or a beautiful manicure? :-) These here products I’m about to share will help you achieve what you are looking for. Let’s start with small business providers.

I wasn’t able to shop on Small Business Saturday but I don’t believe that supporting small business (especially those owned by people of color) should be limited to a day. Check out the businesses below that offer nail accessories and hand blended, toxic free nail polish:

Nail Fabulosity

The owner is also a natural hair sista of mine and blogs over at A Hair Story. She creates unique, colorful nail polishes and her signature style appears to be thermal polishes that create an hombre effect. Visit Nail Fabulosity here. Polishes range from $7.50 – $9

Nail Vinyls

I shared Nail Vinyls in another post a while back: Beauty Items for the Skillfully Challenged

Ginger & Liz

Ginger & Liz offers vegan friendly nail polish and beautiful bright jewel toned colors. Check out there shop here.

Last off, here is a larger commercial brand that I have found to be great at strengthening my nails:

NailTek offers a range of nail strengthening products that address various problems including peeling nails, soft nails, and brittle nails. The image above for NailTek II is the one that has helped me grow my nails in the past.

ModCloth Dazzling in the Daytime Inspired Manicure

modcloth dazzling dress manicure

Every now and again I post something fashion related here on Radiant Brown Beauty. These posts are usually reserved for special occasions. Well, it’s a special occasion!

September 14th is my 7 year wedding anniversary (today if you’re reading this post the day it went live).

For my special day, I wanted to do a really cute but elegant manicure. To do my nails, of course they had to match my outfit but I also created my manicure to match a beautiful dress I found over at ModCloth. One of the ModStylists over at ModCloth reached out to see if I would be interested in being a part of their Nail Klub and Dresses challenge. I happily agreed because when it comes to nail polish, I’m simply all for it. A great manicure is a must have “accessory” for any radiant beauty ;-)

Now, here’s my personal disclaimer. I’m not the best when it comes to nail art. Neither am I one who likes to wear a lot of prints. So, the Dazzling in the Daytime Dress was right up my alley where fashion is concerned – minimal texture print and simply elegant. It reminds me of a Jackie O. style dress when she was feeling a little daring :-)

I haven’t done my nails in quite some time (totally abnormal for me) because my nails had been undergoing a period of breaking and splitting. I finally traced it back to my poor eating habits. I’ve since begun correcting that and while my nails are in a short state right now, they are back on track for gaining a bit of length.

So that’s two special things to celebrate :-) (anniversary + healthier nails)

How To: ModCloth Dress Inspired Nails

To create my ModCloth inspired manicure, I used 3 different nail polishes from my favorite brands along with my  Nail Vinyls:

nail polish collection

    • Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure  #160, Shall We Dance? as the base

nail vinyls

    • Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant, #230
    • China Glaze , #997 Street Chic

The Sally Hansen polish is actually a very pale pink but with just the right amount of application, it appears to be more of a neutral tan. It worked perfectly as the base because it’s the lightest color and darker colors cover nicely (hey, I said I was challenged when it came to nail designs. I know how to layer my polish though!)

This manicure was not only fun to do, it was really easy. So, if you are challenged for coming up with nail art, you’ll first need to get you some Nail Vinyls. They are a tremendous tool for those of us “skillfully challenged.”

ModCloth offers a nice selection of indie clothing, accessories, and decor. You’ll find everything from dresses to swimwear to underwear! Looking at pictures of various dresses like what ModCloth offers can greatly inspire. Check out more of the dresses available on ModCloth at http://www.modcloth.com

Beauty Items for The Skillfully Challenged

Hair, Nail & Beauty products for easy beauty routines

So, I meant to publish this post back in 2013 but was enjoying vacation sooooo much (3 whole weeks!) that I didn’t get around to it. Forgive me. Let blogging resume….

Have you ever seen a hairdo or a manicure you absolutely loved and then when you went to recreate it, it was a hot mess? Me too!

Well, fortunately technology has evolved to the point of simplifying beauty. Below are some beauty items that make otherwise “difficult” to achieve beauty routines much easier for those of us who are let’s say….skillfully challenged :-)

nail vinylsNail vinyls make creating designs like chevron or zebra nails so easy to do. No more free handing for me! Check out this site http://nailvinyls.storenvy.com The prices are great and even I was able to successfully create some pretty cool manicures. Here’s one that looks simple but if you don’t have a steady hand, you need some nail vinyls to help you out:

Want a salon worthy manicure that shines bright like a diamond? Gel manicures are made easy with the Gelish Basix Kit! (link at bottom of post)

I have always wanted brows as sharp as the actresses you see in the movies. While there are some skilled ladies out there in the “real world,” many ladies don’t know how to define their brows. Eyebrow stencils make the job much easier.

While I have finally discovered how to tame my brows, when I want to try on a different shape, eyebrow stencils help make it happen.

As Seen on TV is one of the best sources to find hair accessories to help you create hairstyles that may seem difficult without them. Here are a few of the ones I’ve used:

– Bun maker
– Bump it – instant volume without all the teasing
– Topsy Tail – for unique hairstyles

Check out this quick demo of how easy it is to use the Topsy Tail on natural hair:

If you’re skillfully challenged with creating certain beauty looks in any way (like me!), you know how valuable beauty tools like these are. They help simplify and make life easier. Long gone are the days of plain manicures, ratchet brows and plains ‘ole hairdo’s!
