In Review: That Curl Holistic Hair Products

moisturized natural hair

When it comes to hair care products, I look for products that are all natural. I try to use natural skin care products as well but I’ve not completely given up products without chemicals. I just try to make sure they are really low on the ingredient list.

Why I’m able to keep it all natural with my hair products and not my skin care products is a bit of a mystery to me. Well, maybe not a mystery. I like so many skin care products that are not all natural that it’s hard to give them up. Where my hair is concerned I really love the natural products available much more than those with chemicals.

That’s why I was thrilled when Veronica of That Curl reached out to me to do a review of the holistic care products in her hair line.

I reviewed all 4 holistic hair care products from That Curl:

  • That Curl Aloe Vera Shampoo
  • That Curl Leave In Conditioner
  • That Curl Detangling Herbal Mist
  • That Curl Hair & Body Balm

Check out my video review of the That Curl products:

In the video, I don’t mention price but upon visiting the website, it appears the hair and body balm is $30. That’s a little much to me so while I do love the product it more than likely won’t become a staple (darn!). I have to stick with my budget!

In Review: Bee Mine Holding Butter

bee mine holding butter review

bee mine holding butter review

I purchased Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter in Island Mango (also available in coconut and unscented) on the 4th of July. They were having a sale (20% off) and I jumped right on it because this was on my wish list for the longest kind of time.

I had to finally give in to my former PJ and purchase it. I somehow knew I’d love this based on the reviews I’ve read and watched by curlies with similar hair to mine. So, I purchased the large 16 ounce jar for a litte over $18. (the originally price is $23).  I’m glad I did. You only need to use a small amount so I can forsee having this for a very long time. I also purchased a sample size of the Bee Lovely Moisturizing Daily Conditioner (more to come on this one).

While I think the scent could be honed a little, the butter itself is absolutely delightful. It’s kind of like a whipped butter and it’s very light. A light product that doesn’t weigh my hair down is exactly what this is. My fine tresses can’t take really heavy products that sit on top of the hair shaft.

I used the Bee Mine Curly Butter to redo some ofthe rope twists I’ve been rocking for going on two weeks. Talk about new life!

rrope twists

I initially did my twists with Organic Root Stimulator Loc and Twist Gel. I am  trying to use this ptoduct up becaue I don’t care much for it. Since I hate wasting money, I decided to use it to create my rope twists. The hold was pretty good but the “fuzzies” came and I had to re-do the twists on the top/side perimeter of my head. That’s when I decided to try the Bee Mine Holding Butter.

I love the hold that I get from this butter. It softens the hair and adds a little hold when it settles into the hair shaft. It also encouraged curling on the ends of my twists. So, much so that they became a little bushy. I tamed the bushy ends by applying  a little of Thirsty Roots’ new Apricot Castor Oil (official review of this product SOON!).

Last but not least, here are the ingredients that formulate this hair butter…

INGREDIENTS: 100% Organic Shea Butter, 100% Organic Aloe Vera Gel, Essential Oil Blend, Vegetable Glycerin, Rosemary Leaf and Chammomile Extract, Silk Powder, Paraben & Formaldehyde Free Preservative and Perfume

Whiter Teeth in Just 5 Days?

colgate opticwhite

colgate opticwhiteoptic white smi

OK this isn’t the most flattering pic but first thing in the morning I brush my teeth and wash my face. Makeup and hair doesn’t come in to play until much later.

So, I’m making my way through the complimentary products I received in the Sugar ‘N Spice VoxBox from Influenster.

One of the product lines in the box was Colgate’s new Optic White line. I received the toothpaste, mouthwash and toothbrush (retails from $3-$5).

The toothpaste (Retails for $4.69) and Refreshing Mint mouthwash (Retails from $4-$6)
both contain hydrogen peroxide which aid in the whitening proces.

While I did find that OpticWhite is effective, I have a couple of gripes which I will mention shortly.

OpticWhite Toothpaste

Ingredients: Sodium Monofluorophosphate (0.76%) (0.15% w/v Fluoride Ion). Inactive Ingredients: Calcium Pyrophosphate, Propylene Glycol, PEG/PPG 116/66 Copolymer, PEG-12, Glycerin, PVP, Flavor, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Silica, Hydrogen Peroxide, Sodium Saccharin, Phosphoric Acid, Sucralose, Butylated Hydroxytoluene, Water.

I don’t normally brush with commercial toothpaste like Colgate  and there’s a reason – ingredients. Just like I don’t use products containing sulfates on my hair or skin, I don’t want it in my toothpaste. I also don’t care for PEG-12 or Propylene Glycol.

OpticWhite Mouthwash Ingredients

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Tetrapotassium Pyrophosphate, Polysorbate 20, Phosphoric Acid, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Flavor, Citric Acid, Sodium Saccharin, Sucralose.

This mouthwash has a very unpleasant taste. It foams up due to the peroxide but the taste is awful. My husband likes it though. Go figure. Maybe this is man’s mouthwash.

Due to the unsavory ingredient list, I find that these products are a bit overpriced.

OpticWhite Toothbrush

Containing polishing bristles and little cups that work with the toothpaste to whiten, this is no ordinary toothbrush. I found that it was very effective at brushing and shining my teeth.

Why I Reviewed Colgate OpticWhite Oral Care Products

I realize that not everyone minds products containing artificial ingredients like sulfates. I reviewed these products for efficacy. They are definitely effective and that’s where my review ends.

While my teeth are clearly whiter, I will not use these oral care products in the future nor will I purchase them (except for the toothbrush).  It’s too bad too.  I’m a coffee drinker and the toothpaste prevented my teeth from browning

So, I guess I have a message for Colgate (oh I tweeted it to them too). Please make a natural toothpaste that does NOT contain sulfates.

The End

Disclaimer: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
