“Black don’t crack” I know you’ve heard that at least once. Well, while there is something to that statement, it isn’t entirely true. People of color don’t wrinkle as quickly as caucasians because of the rich melanin in our skin as well as less impactful menopausal changes.
Regardless of the color of your skin, you can not avoid the signs of aging that simply reflect….life. You can however, lessen the effects in many ways. The most common way is via anti-wrinkle serums and creams. Yet, there’s one thing that doesn’t cost a dime and it’s tremendously helpful.
The Best Way to Sleep
Stop sleeping on your face. Simple isn’t it?
Sleeping on your face cause your skin to be all stressed out from the constant friction against your pillow case and sheets. Circulation is hampered as well, leaving you with puffiness around the eye area. Over time, it can wrinkle due to the skin breaking down. The best way to sleep is on your back so that blood flow is not cut off in any way. Plus, you’re working with gravity and not against it.
Isn’t it great when there are things you can totally control? (sleeping aka being unconscious and oblivious to what is actually going on)
Of course, you can’t control sleeping on your face unless you tie yourself down (yeah, that would make for a restful sleep). The average person moves around in their sleep so completely avoiding contact with your face on your pillow is nearly impossible. But, all hope isn’t lost.
To lessen the effects to your skin by sleeping on your face, sleep on a satin or silk pillow case. It’s not only better for your hair (preventing it from drying out), these fabrics are better for your skin. They are more breathable and they do not leach moisturie from the skin the way cotton does.
About those anti-wrinkle serums……
Applying an anti-wrinkle cream or serum to your skin nightly before going to sleep (on your satin/silk pillowcase, of course) can help cut down on the signs of aging. Some serums/creams even boast being able to “rewind the clock” on the signs of aging. That’s debatable but at the very least, your skin’s healthy and clarity can improve.
