Why You Need Berries In Your Diet – A Super Food for Skin Health

berries for skin health

Anti-wrinkle products are all the rave for women and men alike. People are always looking for that “magic” pill that will stave off signs of aging.

The truth is, there is no magic pill – no matter what “they” say. Sure, some products can help to smooth out wrinkles temporarily but let’s face it. Aging is a part of living. Wrinkles occur when skin has lost some of it’s elasticity. It will happen to everyone (unless you plan to nip and tuck every time a wrinkle appears).

Although, wrinkled skin will happen to each of us at some point in our elder years, consuming berries regularly  can help keep our skin healthy and vibrant for years to come.

Berries are a super food. That’s because they are rich in antioxidants from vitamin C.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free-radical damage — free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. New research shows that ascorbic acid 2-phosphate, a derivative of vitamin C, not only neutralizes free radicals, but also reverses DNA damage [source: University of Leicester].*

It’s a good idea to include all types of berries in our diet: Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cranberries, gooseberries, salmonberries, huckleberries

Eating different types of berries across the board provide your body with a wide range of nutrition. Of course, you’ll find certain berries more readily available during different seasons.

  1. These little berries pack a big nutritional punch. Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants that have been shown to improve vision and brain function, reduce inflammation, fight aging, and even prevent cancer.

  2. Salmonberries! Never heard of them before. I will certainly be checking them out. I am a huge fan of berries. I eat them almost every day. They are some of the least sugary fruits, and their Vitamin C boost is fabulous.
